Essential tips for new Monster Hunter Stories 2 players.
Collect Many Monsties
Hatch every egg you find. Each monstie has unique genes that can be channeled to others. Having a large monstie roster gives you more channeling options.
Learn the Type Triangle
Power beats Technical, Technical beats Speed, Speed beats Power. Winning Head-to-Head matchups is the key to efficient combat and Kinship gauge filling.
Explore Monster Dens
Dens contain eggs and rare items. Golden dens have the rarest eggs. Always pick eggs with heavy weight and strong smell for better gene slots.
Upgrade Equipment Regularly
Visit the Smithy to forge and upgrade weapons and armor. Different weapon types are effective against different monster parts.
Build a Balanced Team
Carry monsties with different elements and attack types. You need coverage for all three types (Power, Speed, Technical) and multiple elements.
Use Prayer Pots
Prayer Pots at stables provide passive bonuses to all monsties. Level them up with items found in the field for permanent team-wide improvements.
Do Not Skip Subquests
Subquests give experience, items, and access to rare dens. They also teach you about new monster behaviors and attack patterns.
Save Gene Channeling for End Game
Early monsties get replaced. Save your best genes and channeling for post-game monsties that you will keep permanently.
Use Quick Finish for Weak Monsters
Once you outlevel an area, use Quick Finish to instantly win easy battles. This saves time while still collecting materials.
Check the Monstipedia
The Monstipedia tracks monster weaknesses and patterns you have discovered. Review it before tough fights to choose the right monsties and weapons.
