Grounded Base Building Guide
Everything you need to build and defend the perfect base in Grounded.
Best Base Locations
- 1Build near a Field Station for free saving and respawn -- the Mysterious Machine area is ideal for a first base.
- 2Elevated positions on rocks or roots keep you safe from most ground-crawling insects during raids.
- 3Avoid building directly on ant trails or spider patrol routes to reduce the frequency of creature attacks.
- 4Build near water sources for easy Liquid access needed for smoothies and hydration without long trips.
- 5Late-game bases benefit from central yard locations to minimize travel time to all biomes.
Walls & Floors
- 1Start with Grass Walls and Floors -- they are cheap, fast to build, and sufficient for early-game protection.
- 2Upgrade to Stem Walls as soon as possible for double the durability against creature attacks.
- 3Mushroom Brick Walls are the strongest building material and should be used for your primary endgame base.
- 4Always build a complete roof to prevent flying insects like mosquitoes from attacking you inside.
- 5Use half-walls and windows strategically for visibility and ranged attack positions during raids.
Base Defenses
- 1Spike Traps placed around your base perimeter damage and slow creatures trying to break through walls.
- 2Turrets require resources to build but automatically attack nearby hostile creatures during raids.
- 3Build multiple layers of walls to create killzones where creatures are funneled into defensive positions.
- 4Ziplines leading away from your base provide escape routes when defenses are overwhelmed.
- 5Repair damaged structures immediately after raids to maintain your defense integrity for the next attack.
Storage & Organization
- 1Build dedicated storage rooms with labeled chests for different material categories: bugs, plants, rocks, food.
- 2Place storage near crafting stations to minimize time spent running between chests and workbenches.
- 3Jerky Racks preserve meat indefinitely -- build several to prevent food spoilage and maintain a steady supply.
- 4Dew Collectors and Mushroom Gardens provide passive food and water without requiring foraging trips.
- 5Organize your main chest area near the base entrance for quick deposit runs after exploration.
Automation & Advanced Building
- 1Zipline networks connecting key locations dramatically reduce travel time across the entire yard.
- 2Mushroom Gardens and Dew Collectors automate food and water production when placed inside your base.
- 3Build multiple bases at strategic locations rather than one massive base to reduce commute times.
- 4Bouncer Webs can be used as trampolines to create vertical movement systems inside multi-story bases.
- 5Plan your base layout before building -- demolishing structures only returns half the materials spent.
