Monster Hunter Rise Armor Guide
Understand armor skills, decoration slots, set bonuses, and how to build optimal armor sets for every weapon type and playstyle.
Armor Basics
- 1Each armor piece (head, chest, arms, waist, legs) provides defense, elemental resistances, and armor skills.
- 2Armor skills are the most important factor when choosing armor. Defense values matter less than having the right skills for your weapon.
- 3Decoration slots on armor let you add extra skills via jewels. Higher-tier slots (Level 2, Level 3) accept more powerful decorations.
- 4Rarity determines an armor piece's base stats and upgrade potential. Rarity 7 armor from endgame monsters has the best stats.
- 5You can mix and match armor from different sets. Full sets look cool but mixed sets often provide better skill combinations.
Essential Offensive Skills
- 1Critical Eye (up to Lv7): Increases affinity (critical hit chance) by up to 40%. The most efficient offensive skill in the game.
- 2Weakness Exploit (Lv3): Grants +50% affinity when hitting weak points (hitzones 45+). Almost mandatory for melee builds.
- 3Attack Boost (Lv7): Increases raw attack and adds 10% affinity at Lv4+. Most efficient at Lv4 for the affinity boost.
- 4Critical Boost (Lv3): Increases critical hit damage from 125% to 140%. Only worth it after you have high affinity.
- 5Agitator (Lv5): Increases attack and affinity when the monster is enraged. Since monsters are enraged most of the time, this skill has high uptime.
Essential Defensive Skills
- 1Health Boost (Lv3): Increases max HP by 50. The single most impactful survival skill, especially for learning new monsters.
- 2Divine Blessing (Lv3): 30% chance to reduce damage by 50%. Excellent passive survivability that requires no player input.
- 3Stun Resistance (Lv3): Prevents stun, which is the leading cause of carting. Highly recommended for multiplayer hunts.
- 4Evade Window (Lv5): Increases invincibility frames during dodges. Rewards skilled players who time their dodges well.
- 5Guard (Lv5): Reduces knockback and stamina drain when blocking. Essential for Lance, Gunlance, and Charge Blade users.
Armor Progression
- 1Low Rank: Focus on building any armor with Attack Boost and Critical Eye. Skills matter more than defense at this stage.
- 2High Rank: Farm Rathalos, Zinogre, or Nargacuga sets for strong offensive skills while learning monster patterns.
- 3Endgame: Mix armor from Valstrax, Teostra, and Kaiser pieces for maximum affinity and Critical Boost coverage.
- 4Sunbreak Master Rank: Build around Qurious Crafting for augmented armor with additional skill slots and stat boosts.
- 5Always upgrade your armor at the smithy using Armor Spheres. Fully upgraded High Rank armor can rival unupgraded Master Rank armor.
