Pawn System Guide -- Dragon's Dogma 2

Master the Pawn system. Learn creation, inclinations, hiring strategies, equipment, and advanced tips.

Pawn Creation

  • 1Your main Pawn is created early in the story and stays with you permanently -- invest time in customizing their appearance and vocation.
  • 2Choose a vocation that complements your own playstyle. If you play Fighter, consider a Mage Pawn for healing support.
  • 3Pawn appearance and voice can be changed later at the barbershop in Vernworth, but their base build is permanent.
  • 4Name your Pawn something memorable -- other players will see it when they hire your Pawn online.
  • 5Your Pawn gains knowledge about quests, monsters, and locations as you play, making them more useful over time.

Pawn Inclinations

  • 1Inclinations determine your Pawn AI behavior in combat -- Kindhearted Pawns prioritize healing while Calm ones stay at range.
  • 2You can adjust inclinations at the Pawn Guild using RC (Rift Crystals) to fine-tune combat behavior.
  • 3Simple inclination keeps Pawns focused on basic attacks, ideal for straightforward damage-dealing vocations.
  • 4Calm inclination works best for Mage and Sorcerer Pawns, keeping them at safe distances to cast spells.
  • 5Avoid conflicting inclinations -- a Warrior Pawn with Calm inclination will ineffectively try to fight from range.

Hiring Pawns

  • 1You can hire up to two additional Pawns from other players through Riftstone portals found throughout the world.
  • 2Pawns at or below your level are free to hire; higher-level Pawns cost Rift Crystals.
  • 3Look for Pawns with quest knowledge relevant to your current objectives -- they will guide you to objectives and secrets.
  • 4Hired Pawns do not level up with you. Regularly replace them with higher-level alternatives as you progress.
  • 5Sending a hired Pawn back with a gift and rating helps the other player earn Rift Crystals.

Pawn Equipment

  • 1Pawns use the same equipment as the Arisen -- keep their gear updated as you find or buy better items.
  • 2Equip your main Pawn with the best available gear since they are your permanent companion throughout the game.
  • 3Pawn weight affects their combat behavior -- heavier Pawns are harder to knock down but move slower.
  • 4Some gear provides elemental resistances that are crucial for specific boss fights and areas.
  • 5Sell or gift duplicate equipment to keep your inventory manageable and your Pawns well-equipped.

Advanced Pawn Tips

  • 1Pawns learn enemy weaknesses and quest solutions by fighting monsters and completing quests alongside you.
  • 2A well-trained Pawn with extensive bestiary knowledge will call out enemy weaknesses during combat.
  • 3Pawns hired by other players return with gifts and Rift Crystals -- keep your Pawn attractive to maximize returns.
  • 4Dragonsplague is a contagious Pawn disease that can devastate towns if left unchecked -- watch for behavioral changes.
  • 5Resting at inns or camping lets you review Pawn knowledge and check for any Dragonsplague symptoms.
