Equipment Guide

Learn how to effectively use every piece of ghost hunting equipment to gather evidence and survive investigations.

Thermometer

  • 1The thermometer reads the ambient temperature of the room you are pointing it at, updating every few seconds.
  • 2Temperatures below 0C (32F) indicate Freezing Temperatures evidence -- sweep the ghost room thoroughly.
  • 3The thermometer is your best tool for quickly narrowing down the ghost room at the start of an investigation.
  • 4Rooms adjacent to the ghost room may also show lower temperatures, so check multiple rooms to confirm.
  • 5Higher-tier thermometers provide faster and more accurate readings, making ghost room identification quicker.

EMF Reader

  • 1The EMF Reader detects electromagnetic disturbances on a scale of 1-5, with Level 5 being a unique evidence type.
  • 2Place it near objects the ghost frequently interacts with for passive monitoring during investigations.
  • 3EMF Level 2 indicates a recent ghost interaction, Level 3 means a thrown object, and Level 4 is a ghost event.
  • 4The reader has a limited detection range, so position it centrally in the ghost room for best coverage.
  • 5Carry it while roaming to detect ghost presence in real-time during the early location-finding phase.

UV Light & Glowstick

  • 1UV Lights reveal Ultraviolet fingerprints left on doors, light switches, and windows after ghost interactions.
  • 2Glowsticks serve the same purpose but can be placed on the ground to provide continuous UV coverage.
  • 3Check door handles on both sides -- fingerprints can appear on either side of a door the ghost has touched.
  • 4Fingerprints expire after approximately 60 seconds, so re-check after each ghost interaction you hear.
  • 5UV evidence is one of the easiest to confirm or rule out early in an investigation -- check it first.

Spirit Box

  • 1Hold the Spirit Box and ask questions aloud (or type them) to receive potential ghost responses.
  • 2Common effective questions include: "Where are you?", "How old are you?", "What do you want?", and "Are you here?".
  • 3Some ghosts only respond when you are alone in the room -- ask teammates to step outside.
  • 4The Spirit Box has a limited range and works best when you are in or near the ghost room.
  • 5If you get an "X" response with no voice, the ghost is nearby but does not have Spirit Box evidence.

Ghost Writing Book

  • 1Place the Ghost Writing Book on a flat surface in the ghost room and wait for the ghost to write in it.
  • 2The ghost must be in the same room as the book to interact with it -- room identification is critical.
  • 3Writing can take time to appear -- leave the book and check back periodically rather than watching continuously.
  • 4Multiple books can be placed in different suspected rooms to cover more ground during uncertain investigations.
  • 5Once writing appears, it confirms Ghost Writing as evidence -- the content of the writing is purely cosmetic.
