Lost Ark Engraving Guide

Everything you need to know about the engraving system. Learn how engravings work, which ones to prioritize, and how to build an optimal 5x3 setup.

How Engravings Work

  • 1Engravings provide powerful passive bonuses. Each engraving has three levels, activated at 5, 10, and 15 nodes.
  • 2Nodes come from equipped engraving books, accessories, and ability stones.
  • 3Class engravings define your playstyle. Each class has two class engravings that change how abilities function.
  • 4Negative engravings (Atk. Power Reduction, Atk. Speed Reduction, etc.) can appear on accessories. Avoid reaching level 1.
  • 5The goal is to reach level 3 on your core engravings. Endgame builds typically run 5x3 (five level-3 engravings).

Priority Engravings for DPS

  • 1Your class engraving is always the highest priority. It defines your entire build.
  • 2Grudge: 20% more damage to bosses, but 20% more damage taken. Essential for all DPS at endgame.
  • 3Cursed Doll: +16% Attack Power at level 3, but -25% healing received. Strong universal damage engraving.
  • 4Keen Blunt Weapon: +50% crit damage but 10% chance to deal -20% damage. Only good with 60%+ crit rate.
  • 5Adrenaline: Stacking Attack Power and Crit Rate on skill use. Great for classes with many quick skills.

Priority Engravings for Support

  • 1Awakening: Reduces Awakening skill cooldown. Essential for both Bard and Paladin.
  • 2Expert: Increases shield and healing effectiveness on targets below 50% HP. Core support engraving.
  • 3Heavy Armor: Massive defense boost. Helps supports survive mistakes in difficult content.
  • 4Drops of Ether: Creates orbs that buff party members with attack power, crit rate, or defense.
  • 5Vital Point Hit: Increases stagger damage. Useful when your party needs help with stagger checks.

Building Your Engraving Setup

  • 1Start with 4x3 engravings at item level 1415-1445. This is sufficient for Valtan and Vykas.
  • 2Upgrade to 5x3 at 1490+ when you have access to Ancient accessories and relic stones.
  • 3Use an ability stone calculator to find the most cost-effective stone cutting strategy.
  • 4Buy legendary engraving books for your class engraving first. This reduces accessory costs significantly.
  • 5Check market prices before committing. Sometimes a different combination of accessories is far cheaper.
