Ship Guide
Every ship type in Sea of Thieves with crew sizes, cannon counts, and when to use each one.
Sloop
Crew: 1-2Cannons: 2The Sloop is the smallest and most agile ship, perfect for solo or duo crews. It has one mast, one sail, and two cannons (one per side). Its small size makes it the fastest ship when sailing into the wind, ideal for escaping larger vessels. The anchor raises quickly, and one player can manage all ship functions. Best for new players and stealthy gameplay.
Brigantine
Crew: 2-3Cannons: 4The Brigantine is the mid-size ship balanced between speed and firepower. It has two masts, two sails, and four cannons (two per side). It is the fastest ship with crosswind and offers a good mix of maneuverability and combat power. The mid-deck has a map table and barrel storage. Ideal for experienced duos or a full trio crew.
Galleon
Crew: 3-4Cannons: 8The Galleon is the largest and most powerful ship in the seas. It has three masts, three sails, and eight cannons (four per side). It is the fastest ship with tailwind and has the most storage and deck space. However, it requires a full crew to operate efficiently -- raising the anchor and adjusting three sails takes coordination. Best for organized crews ready for large-scale naval battles.
Rowboat
Crew: 1-4Cannons: 0The Rowboat is a small auxiliary vessel found on beaches and docks throughout the world. It can be attached to the back of any ship and used for stealthy approaches, transporting loot to shore, or quick getaways. Some rowboats come equipped with a harpoon. While it has no cannons, it is invaluable for sneaky loot deliveries and island exploration.
Sailing Tips
- 1Raise sails before turning to make tighter turns.
- 2Angle sails to catch the wind direction for maximum speed.
- 3Use the harpoon to make sharp turns around rocks and islands.
- 4Keep at least one crew member on lookout for rocks and enemy ships.
- 5Drop anchor only in emergencies. Use sail management to stop instead.
- 6Park your ship facing outward from islands for quick escapes.
