Manifold vs Load Balancing

Manifold design feeds items sequentially down a belt into machines. It is simpler to build but takes time to fill. Load balancing splits items evenly using splitters. Manifold is recommended for most setups as it achieves 100% efficiency once saturated and is much easier to build and expand.

Production Ratios

Every recipe has a fixed input/output ratio. A Smelter produces 30 Iron Ingots/min from 30 Iron Ore/min. A Constructor makes 20 Iron Plates/min from 60 Ingots/min. Always calculate backwards from your target output. Use 3 Smelters to feed 1 Constructor for Iron Plates at full efficiency.

Overclocking and Underclocking

Power Shards allow overclocking buildings up to 250%. However, power consumption scales exponentially. A building at 250% uses ~6x power. Underclocking to 80-90% saves significant power with minimal throughput loss. Use overclocking only on bottleneck machines.

Factory Layout Tips

Build on foundations for clean layouts. Use a main bus design for shared resources. Separate production lines by product type. Leave space between machines for future expansion. Build vertically using stackable floors when horizontal space runs out.

Train Network for Long Distance

Trains are ideal for transporting resources over 1km+. Each freight car holds 32 stacks. Set up dedicated loading/unloading stations with buffers. Use round-robin track layouts to avoid deadlocks. Trains consume no fuel once powered.

Fluid Management

Pipelines have a max flow rate of 300/600 m3/min (Mk.1/Mk.2). Fluid buffers help stabilize pressure. Place pipeline pumps every 20m of vertical height. Head lift is the most common issue with fluid systems. Industrial fluid buffers store 2400 m3.

Alternative Recipes

Hard drives found in crash sites unlock alternative recipes via the MAM. Some alternatives are significantly more efficient. Key alternates: Steel Screw (52/min vs 40), Pure Iron Ingot (65/min vs 30), Recycled Plastic. Always research hard drives when found.
