Gear & Armor Guide
Best armor sets, enchantments, and gear progression from early game through endgame in God of War Ragnarok.
Early Game Armor
- 1The starting armor set is functional but should be replaced as soon as you reach the first Dwarven shop.
- 2Nidavellir armor is one of the earliest craftable sets and provides a solid balance of Strength and Defense.
- 3Focus on upgrading one armor set fully rather than spreading resources across multiple early options.
- 4Sell unused armor pieces and resources you no longer need to fund early upgrades at Brok and Sindri shops.
- 5Look for armor with Luck and Runic stats early on to increase Hacksilver drops and Runic attack damage.
Midgame Armor Sets
- 1The Lunda armor set is excellent for midgame with its poison-based perks that add damage over time to attacks.
- 2Berserker armor pieces drop from Berserker Gravestone bosses and offer high stat values across the board.
- 3Dragon Scaled armor provides fire resistance and pairs well with aggressive Blades of Chaos builds.
- 4Mix and match armor pieces from different sets to optimize for your preferred playstyle and stat distribution.
- 5Upgrade armor to at least Level 5 before attempting harder difficulty content and optional bosses.
Nornir Chests
- 1Nornir Chests contain Idunn Apples (health upgrades) and Horns of Blood Mead (rage upgrades) -- collect them all.
- 2Each Nornir Chest requires solving a nearby puzzle -- look for three rune seals to break within the environment.
- 3Some seals are hidden behind destructible objects, on ledges above, or require specific weapon abilities to activate.
- 4Prioritize health upgrades (Idunn Apples) if you are struggling with combat encounters on higher difficulties.
- 5Use the map markers to track which Nornir Chests you have already opened in each realm.
Enchantments
- 1Enchantments slot into armor to provide additional stat bonuses and passive abilities.
- 2Prioritize enchantments that complement your build -- Runic for ability damage, Strength for melee, Vitality for survival.
- 3Realm-specific enchantments often have unique effects tied to the realm they were found in.
- 4Higher-level enchantments from endgame content can dramatically change your build effectiveness.
- 5Keep a variety of enchantments for different situations -- swap them before challenging boss fights or arenas.
Endgame Gear
- 1The Steinbjorn armor set is one of the strongest in the game, obtainable by defeating Drekis and collecting Slumber Stones.
- 2Surtr armor provides massive Runic stat bonuses, making it ideal for Runic attack-focused builds.
- 3The Rond of Obliteration shield attachment is the best endgame shield option for parry-based playstyles.
- 4Fully upgraded weapons at Level 9 unlock their maximum potential -- prioritize weapon upgrades over armor.
- 5New Game Plus introduces Ruptured armor variants with even higher stats for the ultimate challenge runs.
