Beginner's Guide to Fortnite
New to Fortnite? This guide covers everything you need to get your first Victory Royale.
Landing & Looting
- 1Jump from the Battle Bus when it is directly over your target location.
- 2Dive straight down for maximum speed -- pull your glider as late as possible.
- 3Land on rooftops to find chests quickly and get a height advantage.
- 4Prioritize picking up a weapon first, then shields, then materials.
- 5Listen for the golden glow sound -- it means a chest is nearby.
Shield & Health
- 1Always carry healing items -- at least 3 Mini Shields or 1 Big Shield.
- 2Mini Shields (25 each) can only be used up to 50 shield -- use them first.
- 3Big Shields (50 each) fill any amount of shield up to 100.
- 4Chug Splashes heal both health and shield for 20 each -- use in team fights.
- 5Med Kits take 10 seconds to use -- find safe cover before using them.
Storm Mechanics
- 1The storm circle shrinks throughout the match, dealing increasing damage.
- 2Always check the map for the next safe zone and plan your rotation.
- 3Early storm does minimal damage -- do not panic, but do not ignore it.
- 4Late-game storm deals massive damage and can eliminate you in seconds.
- 5Vehicles, launch pads, and ziplines help you outrun the storm.
Building Basics
- 1Harvest materials by hitting trees, rocks, and buildings with your pickaxe.
- 2Hit the blue circle on objects for faster harvesting (2x speed).
- 3Wood builds fastest, stone is stronger, metal is the strongest but slowest.
- 4Build a wall instantly when you get shot -- this is the most important habit.
- 5Practice building a simple 1x1 box (4 walls + ramp) for cover.
Combat Tips
- 1Use shotguns for close range and ARs for medium range.
- 2Aim for the head -- headshot damage is significantly higher.
- 3Build between your shots -- "shoot, build, shoot" is the core loop.
- 4Crouch while shooting ARs for better accuracy (reduced bloom).
- 5Carry a balanced loadout: AR + Shotgun + Heal + Utility + Sniper/SMG.
Survival Strategy
- 1In your first games, focus on surviving rather than getting eliminations.
- 2Stay on the edge of the storm circle -- fewer enemies and safer rotations.
- 3Use natural cover (hills, trees, rocks) when you do not have materials.
- 4Listen for footsteps, gunshots, and building sounds to track enemies.
- 5If you are losing a fight, disengage -- building away is always an option.
