Map Guide & Generator Strategy
Learn every map in Dead by Daylight. Generator spawns, strong loops, totem locations, and strategies for both killer and survivor.
Map Basics
- 1Every trial takes place on a randomly selected map with procedurally generated tile layouts.
- 2Maps belong to Realms (e.g., MacMillan Estate, Autohaven Wreckers). Each realm has multiple map variants.
- 3Generators spawn in fixed positions on each map variant. Learning common gen spawns helps with pressure.
- 4The hatch spawns when generators completed equals survivors remaining plus one, or when one survivor is left.
- 5Exit gates spawn on opposite sides of the map. Their switches require 20 seconds to open.
Survivor-Friendly Maps
- 1Eyrie of Crows: Large map with strong windows and high walls. Difficult for killers without mobility.
- 2Garden of Joy: The main building has extremely safe loops and multiple floors for extended chases.
- 3Badham Preschool: The school building offers strong window loops and balanced pallet distribution.
- 4Ormond: Large map with many safe pallets and strong interconnected jungle gyms.
- 5Cowshed (Coldwind): The main building loop is one of the strongest structures in the game.
Killer-Friendly Maps
- 1Shelter Woods: Small map with few pallets and very little line-of-sight blockers. Easy to patrol.
- 2Dead Dawg Saloon: Compact map with many short loops. Killers with ranged attacks excel here.
- 3Coal Tower: Small map with a central building. Easy to pressure generators and find survivors.
- 4Midwich Elementary: Indoor map with limited pallets. Survivors struggle to create distance.
- 5The Game (Gideon): Two floors with many pallets but very short loops and dead zones.
Generator Strategy
- 1Three-gen: Protect 3 generators that are close together. If survivors let this happen, the game becomes nearly unwinnable for them.
- 2Survivors should spread out on generators early. Working on the same gen wastes time.
- 3Killers should identify and protect a 3-gen setup from the start. Let far generators go.
- 4Generator regression perks (Pop, Pain Resonance, Overcharge) are most effective on contested generators.
- 5Survivors can use Prove Thyself for faster cooperative repairs when doubling up is necessary.
Totem & Chest Locations
- 1Hex totems glow with a fire effect and must be cleansed to remove the associated hex perk.
- 2Totems typically spawn near walls, in corners, behind objects, or inside structures.
- 3There are always 5 totems on every map. Cleansing all 5 (or blessing them) counters NOED.
- 4Chests contain random items. The Plunderer's Instinct perk reveals chest auras and improves loot quality.
- 5Basement always spawns in one of two fixed locations per map. It contains 4 hooks and a chest.
