Street Fighter 6 Game Mechanics

Master the Drive System, Parry, Drive Rush, Drive Impact, and advanced techniques that define SF6.

Drive System

Drive Impact

1 Drive Bar

A powerful armored strike that absorbs one hit and causes wall splat near corners. When it hits an opponent in Burnout state, it causes a crumple for a guaranteed combo. Can be countered by another Drive Impact, throw, or invincible reversal.

Drive Parry

0.5 Drive Bar (continuous)

Hold medium punch and medium kick to enter a parry stance that blocks all attacks and recovers Drive Gauge on successful parry. Perfect Parry (frame-perfect timing) freezes the opponent and allows a full punish combo. Essential defensive tool.

Drive Rush

1 or 3 Drive Bars

A forward dash that gives frame advantage. Costs 1 bar when cancelled from Drive Parry and 3 bars when cancelled from a normal attack. Used to extend combos, close distance, and create pressure. The cornerstone of SF6 offense.

Drive Reversal

2 Drive Bars

A counter-attack performed while blocking by pressing forward and heavy punch plus heavy kick. Deals minimal damage but pushes the opponent away, resetting neutral. Essential for escaping heavy pressure at the cost of Drive Gauge.

Overdrive

2 Drive Bars

Enhanced versions of special moves (EX moves) performed by pressing two buttons. Overdrive specials have improved properties: more damage, better frame data, additional hits, or unique follow-ups. Use wisely as they drain Drive Gauge quickly.

Burnout State

  • 1Burnout occurs when your Drive Gauge is completely depleted.
  • 2In Burnout, you cannot use any Drive mechanics: no Parry, Drive Rush, Drive Impact, Overdrive, or Drive Reversal.
  • 3Blocking attacks during Burnout causes chip damage that can KO you.
  • 4Getting hit by Drive Impact during Burnout causes a crumple stun for a free combo.
  • 5Drive Gauge regenerates over time but regenerates faster when you are not blocking or being hit.
  • 6Managing your Drive Gauge is the most important strategic element in SF6.

Advanced Tips

  • 1Perfect Parry into Drive Rush gives you a long combo opportunity at the cost of only 1 Drive bar.
  • 2Drive Impact on reaction to fireballs is a strong counter-zoning tool near the corner.
  • 3Overdrive moves are safe on block more often than regular specials, making them useful in pressure.
  • 4You can cancel Drive Rush into throw for a quick mix-up that catches opponents blocking.
  • 5Burnout management is the key to high-level play. Never waste Drive bars on unnecessary actions.
  • 6Modern controls give auto-combos but reduce damage. Classic controls offer full optimization.
