Beginner's Guide to Genshin Impact

New to Teyvat? This guide covers the essential systems every Traveler needs to understand.

Resin System

  • 1Original Resin is Genshin's stamina system -- it caps at 160 and regenerates 1 per 8 minutes (full refill in ~21 hours).
  • 2Spend Resin on Domains (artifact/talent/weapon material farming), Ley Lines (Mora/EXP books), and weekly bosses.
  • 3Condensed Resin costs 40 Original Resin and doubles domain rewards in one run. Craft up to 5 at a time.
  • 4Never let your Resin cap at 160 -- spend it daily to maximize progression.
  • 5Fragile Resin from Adventure Rank rewards is best saved for AR 45+ when 5-star artifacts are guaranteed.

Adventure Rank Progression

  • 1Adventure Rank (AR) gates content: story quests, domains, weekly bosses, and World Level increases.
  • 2AR 20 unlocks the Battle Pass and Spiral Abyss. AR 25 unlocks Reputation quests in each region.
  • 3AR 45 is the most important milestone -- it guarantees a 5-star artifact from every domain run.
  • 4World Level increases enemy difficulty and loot quality. You can lower it by 1 level if struggling.
  • 5Prioritize the Archon Questline for Primogems and to unlock new regions with more exploration content.

Domain System

  • 1Talent Material domains rotate daily (Mon-Sat). Sunday lets you choose any material.
  • 2Weapon Ascension Material domains also rotate daily with the same Mon-Sat + Sunday schedule.
  • 3Artifact domains cost 20 Resin per run. At AR 45+, the highest level guarantees at least one 5-star artifact.
  • 4Co-op domains are available -- bring characters that counter the domain's elemental hazards.
  • 5Weekly boss domains (Dvalin, Andrius, Childe, etc.) cost 30 Resin and can only be claimed once per week.

Wishes & Banner Types

  • 1Character Event Banner has a 0.6% base rate for 5-stars with soft pity at 74 and hard pity at 90 wishes.
  • 2The 50/50 system: first 5-star has a 50% chance to be the featured character. If you lose, the next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured.
  • 3Weapon Banner has a different pity system with Epitomized Path -- you need up to 240 wishes to guarantee a specific weapon.
  • 4Standard Banner should only use Acquaint Fates (blue). Never spend Primogems on it.
  • 5Save Primogems for characters you want. A guaranteed 5-star character costs 180 wishes (28,800 Primogems) in the worst case.

Elemental Reactions

  • 1Vaporize (Pyro + Hydro): 1.5x or 2x damage multiplier. The strongest single-hit reaction for DPS.
  • 2Melt (Pyro + Cryo): 1.5x or 2x damage multiplier. Similar to Vaporize but harder to sustain.
  • 3Freeze (Hydro + Cryo): Immobilizes enemies. Combine with Blizzard Strayer for free CRIT Rate.
  • 4Aggravate/Spread (Electro/Dendro + Dendro/Electro): Flat damage bonus that scales with EM and level.
  • 5Bloom (Hydro + Dendro): Creates seeds. Add Electro for Hyperbloom or Pyro for Burgeon -- both scale with EM and level.
  • 6Swirl (Anemo + any element): Spreads elements and deals damage. Viridescent Venerer shreds RES by 40%.
