Beginner's Guide to Blasphemous
New to Blasphemous? This guide covers combat, exploration, the guilt system, and essential progression tips.
Combat Fundamentals
- 1Blasphemous rewards patience -- learn enemy attack patterns before committing.
- 2The dodge roll has generous invincibility frames. Use it to roll through attacks, not away.
- 3Charged attacks deal significantly more damage and can break certain enemy guards.
- 4Prayers consume fervor (mana) and are powerful tools -- do not hoard them.
- 5Parrying is possible against most melee attacks and opens enemies for counterattacks.
The Guilt System
- 1Dying creates a guilt fragment at your death location and reduces your maximum fervor.
- 2Return to your guilt fragment to reclaim your lost fervor capacity.
- 3Confession statues in Albero can clear all guilt fragments for a fee.
- 4Guilt also reduces tears (currency) gained from enemies until cleared.
- 5On harder difficulties, managing guilt becomes a critical resource decision.
Exploration & Collectibles
- 1Blasphemous is a metroidvania -- you will need to revisit areas with new abilities.
- 2Relics unlock access to previously blocked paths. Check every dead end after getting a new relic.
- 3Cherubs are hidden in hard-to-reach spots and reward upgrades when enough are collected.
- 4Talk to every NPC multiple times as dialogue often changes with story progression.
- 5Break walls that look slightly different -- many hide valuable rosary beads and bones.
Build & Equipment
- 1Rosary beads provide passive bonuses. Mix offense and defense based on the area.
- 2Prayers are equipped active abilities with varying fervor costs and cooldowns.
- 3Mea Culpa hearts modify your sword with different effects -- experiment with combinations.
- 4Visit the Mea Culpa shrine regularly to unlock new combat moves and upgrades.
- 5Bone collectibles unlock unique items when delivered to specific NPCs.
