Advanced strategies for Slayer Gates, Marauder fights, Master Levels, and more.

Slayer Gates

  • 1Slayer Gates are optional combat encounters found in campaign levels -- look for purple portals.
  • 2Each Slayer Gate rewards an Empyrean Key. Collect all six to unlock the Unmaykr weapon.
  • 3Slayer Gate arenas are tougher than standard encounters -- bring full ammo and health before entering.
  • 4You cannot use extra lives inside Slayer Gates -- dying sends you back to the overworld.
  • 5Complete Slayer Gates on your first playthrough to unlock the Unmaykr as early as possible.

Buff Totems

  • 1Buff Totems are glowing red pillars that supercharge all nearby demons with speed and damage buffs.
  • 2Destroying the Buff Totem immediately removes the buff from all affected demons in the arena.
  • 3Prioritize finding and destroying the totem before engaging buffed demons -- they hit much harder.
  • 4Totems are often hidden behind environmental obstacles or in side rooms -- scan the arena quickly.
  • 5Use the dash and jump abilities to reach the totem fast while avoiding buffed demon attacks.

Marauder Encounters

  • 1The Marauder blocks all frontal attacks except during his green-flash melee window -- wait for it.
  • 2When his eyes flash green, hit him with Super Shotgun then quick-switch to Ballista for a follow-up.
  • 3Stay at mid-range -- too far and he throws his axe, too close and he uses a shotgun blast.
  • 4Never use the BFG, Crucible, or Lock-on Rockets against Marauders -- they block or dodge them.
  • 5His wolf summon can be killed with one Ballista shot or ignored if you focus the Marauder down fast.

Escalation Encounters

  • 1Escalation Encounters are multi-wave combat challenges that increase in difficulty with each wave.
  • 2Completing all waves rewards Weapon Points for unlocking weapon mods and upgrades.
  • 3Each wave adds tougher demons -- start with Fodder waves and build up to Super-Heavy combinations.
  • 4Use resource demons (Zombies, Unwilling) between waves to refill health, armor, and ammo.
  • 5Escalation Encounters test your full toolkit -- practice weapon switching and ability usage here.

Master Levels

  • 1Master Levels are remixed campaign missions with harder enemy placements and no extra lives.
  • 2They unlock after completing the corresponding campaign level for the first time.
  • 3Master Levels are the hardest PvE content in DOOM Eternal -- expect Super-Heavy spam in tight arenas.
  • 4Completing Master Levels on Ultra-Nightmare difficulty rewards exclusive gold weapon skins.
  • 5Practice the base campaign level on Nightmare first before attempting the Master Level version.
