Beginner's Guide

Summoner's Rift basics: roles, objectives, farming, and vision.

Learn the Map

Summoner's Rift has 3 lanes (Top, Mid, Bot) and a Jungle. Each lane has turrets that must be destroyed to reach the enemy Nexus. The river divides the map and contains Dragon and Baron objectives.

Understand Roles

There are 5 roles: Top (bruisers/tanks), Jungle (roaming ganker), Mid (burst damage), Bot/ADC (sustained damage), and Support (utility/protection). Each role has a specific job in the team.

Last-Hit Minions

Gold is earned by getting the killing blow on minions (CS). Prioritize farming over fighting early. Aim for at least 6 CS per minute as a beginner.

Buy Items on Recall

Press B to recall to base and spend your gold. Follow recommended item builds at first, then learn to adapt based on the enemy team composition.

Use Wards for Vision

Place wards in bushes and near objectives to see incoming enemies. The free trinket ward refreshes over time. Vision saves lives.

Start with Easy Champions

Play Garen (Top), Amumu (Jungle), Annie (Mid), Ashe (Bot), or Soraka (Support). These champions have simple kits that let you focus on learning the game.

Respect the Tower

Turrets deal increasing damage to champions. Do not dive under enemy turrets unless you know you can survive. Let minions take turret shots first.

Dragon and Baron

Dragon spawns bot-side and gives team-wide buffs. Baron spawns at 20 minutes and gives a massive pushing buff. Contest these objectives as a team.

Communicate with Pings

Use the ping system (G key) to warn teammates of danger, signal missing enemies, or coordinate plays. Pings are faster and clearer than typing.

Do Not Chase Kills

Chasing low-health enemies into fog of war often leads to death. Take the turret or objective instead. Objectives win games, not kills.
