Essential tips for new Divinity: Original Sin 2 players.

Divinity: OS2 has no auto-save during combat. Quick save (F5) before every fight and major dialogue. Some choices are permanently locked in.

Physical and Magic armor must be depleted before status effects or HP damage applies. Focus fire on one enemy to strip their armor first.

Oil + Fire = explosion. Water + Lightning = stun. Poison + Fire = explosion. Blood + Lightning = stun. Master surface interactions for huge damage.

Ranged attacks from high ground deal 20% more damage and have increased range. Always position archers and mages on elevated terrain.

The Pet Pal talent lets you talk to animals. They provide quests, hints, and hilarious dialogue. Take it on at least one character.

Thievery is incredibly powerful. You can pickpocket vendors for their gold and items once per character. Use it to fund your party early on.

Have at least one physical and one magical damage dealer. Some enemies have high physical but low magic armor, and vice versa.

Fort Joy has multiple escape routes and tons of hidden content. Do not rush to leave. Complete side quests for XP and gear.

Combine two skill books from different schools to create hybrid skills. These are some of the most powerful abilities in the game.

After Act 1, you can respec your entire party for free on the Lady Vengeance. Do not worry about making permanent mistakes early on.
