Skill & Decoration Guide

Master the skill and decoration system in Monster Hunter Rise. Learn skill priorities, decoration crafting, talisman farming, and optimal builds for every weapon.

Skill System Basics

  • 1Skills in Monster Hunter Rise come from armor pieces, decorations (jewels), talismans, and set bonuses.
  • 2Each skill has multiple levels. Higher levels provide stronger effects, but some skills are most efficient at specific breakpoints.
  • 3Skills are active as long as you have the required level. There is no activation condition unless the skill description states one.
  • 4You can see your total active skills in the Equipment Info screen. Red numbers indicate skills above max level (wasted points).
  • 5Some skills have diminishing returns at higher levels. Prioritize reaching efficient breakpoints before maxing every skill.

Decoration System

  • 1Decorations are craftable jewels that slot into armor to add skill points. They come in Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 sizes.
  • 2Level 1 decorations provide common skills like Stun Resistance, Speed Sharpening, and Flinch Free.
  • 3Level 2 decorations include essential skills like Critical Eye, Weakness Exploit, and Attack Boost.
  • 4Level 3 decorations are rare and provide powerful skills like Handicraft, Protective Polish, and Guard Up.
  • 5Craft decorations at the smithy using monster materials. Check the required materials and farm specific monsters for the jewels you need.

Talisman (Charm) System

  • 1Talismans are randomly generated accessories with random skills and decoration slots. They are the primary source of build variety.
  • 2Farm talismans through the Melding Pot using monster materials. The Wisp of Mystery and Rebirth options give the best results.
  • 3A god-tier talisman can save 3-5 skill points on your build, allowing you to fit extra offensive or comfort skills.
  • 4Check your talismans regularly after melding. Sort by skill to quickly find ones that fit your current build goals.
  • 5Do not obsess over perfect talismans. A good-enough talisman with 2 useful skills and a Level 2 slot is already excellent.

Skill Priority by Weapon Type

  • 1Melee weapons: Prioritize Critical Eye, Weakness Exploit, Critical Boost, then Attack Boost for raw damage builds.
  • 2Elemental melee weapons (Dual Blades, Sword and Shield): Add Element Attack skills and Critical Element for maximum elemental output.
  • 3Bowguns: Focus on ammo-specific skills like Spare Shot, Ammo Up, Recoil Down, Reload Speed, and Steady Hand.
  • 4Bow: Prioritize Constitution, Stamina Surge, Bow Charge Plus, and elemental attack skills for optimal dash-dance gameplay.
  • 5Lance/Gunlance: Include Guard (Lv5) and Guard Up for comfortable blocking. Gunlance also benefits from Artillery and Load Shells.

Quality of Life Skills

  • 1Speed Sharpening (Lv3): Reduces whetstone usage to 1 cycle. Saves significant time on melee weapons that lose sharpness fast.
  • 2Flinch Free (Lv1): Prevents allied attacks from staggering you in multiplayer. One level is enough for most situations.
  • 3Free Meal (Lv3): 75% chance to not consume items when used. Extremely valuable for extended hunts and using expensive items.
  • 4Wide-Range (Lv5): Shares item effects with nearby allies. A support staple that lets you heal and buff the entire team.
  • 5Quick Sheathe (Lv3): Speeds up weapon sheathing. Essential for Great Sword (to reposition) and helpful for Long Sword and Hammer.
